Ed Slater I was born in Ayr in 1947, my childhood playground was around Alloway, around the Auld Kirk, Burns Cottage, the Brig o Doon (where we did most of our fishing) and Bellsisle Park hunting for golf balls. I left school with no qualifications and completed my apprenticeship as a carpet weaver. I joined the Royal Marines in 1965 and retired after 22 year’s service.

I joined the Open University in 1994 and after 6yrs study was awarded with a diploma in the European humanities and a B A hons. It was during my studies I found my passion for art being inspired by Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock and Anselm Keither.

It was always my dream to come back to Scotland and live in a little cottage in the country which I now do with wife Linda and dogs Maisie and Tinker. My studio is the old cow shed which is very damp and badly lit but it has the ambience of a cave which is important to my mind set when I am creating.
